Eritrea Focus is Think Tank & Research organisation, exile and refugee groups and individuals concerned with the gross abuse of human rights in Eritrea. These abuses have been well documented by the United Nations, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, among many international organisations over many years. The consequences for the people of Eritrea have been devastating – including an unprecedented number of people fleeing Eritrea to escape the intolerable conditions in their own country.
During the first ten months of 2014, the number of asylum-seekers in Europe from Eritrea almost tripled, with 37,000 Eritreans applying for asylum in 38 European countries compared with the same period in 2013. Thousands live in degrading conditions of abject poverty in ramshackle camps near Calais – many without hope. The flow of refugees continues unabated, with 5,000 fleeing the country each month.
