Eritrea and Somalia rank among the world’s most corrupt regimes, according to Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index. They appear alongside Libya, South Sudan, and Sudan in the global bottom tier.

In contrast, Seychelles emerges as Africa’s least corrupt country, followed by Cape Verde, Botswana, and Rwanda.

Transparency International warned that corruption remains a serious global threat, fuelled by weak political will, eroding democratic institutions, and poor governance.

The index assessed 182 countries, with no African state making the global top ten least corrupt list, which is dominated largely by European nations.
